This was a labor of love for me: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was, most likely, one of the most played Sega Genesis games I’ve ever owned and, as such, I’m extremely familiar with the music in the game. Hanging out in the Death Egg Zone was probably one of my favorite spots in the game because it built up a lot of tension, held host to a big twist, and also gave you a sense that there was a lot more going on in the game’s story than you’d initially think: Robotnik stepped things up and created his own damn space station called the Death Egg… because… you know… why not? When you suddenly find yourself in the middle of outer space and this tense bit of music starts playing, you get a real sense of feeling that the cards might be stacked against you, for once… and then Robotnik reveals Metal Sonic and then, once you surpass that, Robotnik reveals the biggest machine yet… yeah, this entire stage was epic. This medley is kind of representative of that whole stage; including all four major themes, not including the staff roll – which is just a medley of the stage themes going into the invincibility theme – from that stage. Enjoy!
